Who we are

Kirkcaldy Free Church has a congregation of over 60 people. We represent a healthy mix of age groups – from children and students to those who have retired and from professionals to families.

As a congregation we belong to the Free Church of Scotland, an evangelical, reformed, presbyterian church. It is Bible-based, Christ-centred and committed to outreach and mission.

Since November 2002, we have been involved in planting a church in Dunfermline to serve the population there.

  The Bible

What we believe

• The Bible. We believe that the Bible is relevant to your life today. God speaks to us in the Bible to help us understand who he is, who we are and the world we live in. We believe that the Bible is inspired by God and is without error.

God. We believe that there is one true and living God who is both personal and knowable. God’s existence is eternal and Trinitarian – within God there has always existed a loving relationship between the three persons of the godhead, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He invites you to join in this relationship.

Life. We live in a world where sin and the rejection of God have had devastating results for us and the world that we live in. God responded to this with love. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ into our broken world and through his death and resurrection Jesus has broken the power of sin and brought new life and hope to creation. On a personal level God calls each of us to turn from sin and to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. In doing so we are given a new life, a life full of love and hope: hope for today, tomorrow and eternity. None of this is deserved – it is God’s gift to us.

Church. The church is not a building, a place or an organisation. It is a community of people who love and worship God. Christians gather as the church to grow in their relationship with God, to care for one another as friends and to tell others the good news of Jesus Christ. The church does this by sharing the message of the bible and by sharing the love of God in practical ways. Christians need to meet together on a frequent and regular basis to achieve these goals.

The Free Church in Fife

For over 150 years, there have been 3 congregations in Fife, Kennoway, Kinglassie and Kirkcaldy. In 1970, a decision was made to unite all three congregations under one minister based in Kirkcaldy. In the mid-1980s, the congregation moved from the original Kirkcaldy Free Church building in Millie Street to a new purpose-built church in St Clair Street.

More recently, in 2001, Dundee Free Church started an outreach in St Andrews. In September 2003 a minister was appointed to serve St Andrews Free Church on a permanent basis.

In November 2002 we decided to start monthly services in Dunfermline to serve the people of West Fife, with a long-term view of establishing a permanent church in Dunfermline. Weekly morning services are now being held at Masterton Primary School at 11am.

Link with Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church

For several years now, we have had a close association with Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church (POPC) in Jackson, Mississippi, USA.

Each summer, POPC send a team of people over to visit our church and to get involved in outreach to the area surrounding our church building.

We have also sent a team to Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church, to assist them with their Vacation Bible School and to build stronger relationships with the people there.
